Interactive Features

Thanks to its remarkable engineering and HDi™ technology, HD DVD allows you to instantly connect to the Internet and access all sorts of special features you’d never find on a standard DVD—without ever leaving the movie.

Think of HD DVD’s special features as supersized extras smothered in interactive gravy, with heaping helpings of revolutionary fixin’s on the side. These features include:

Web-Enabled Content

Every HD DVD player comes equipped with a network connection. That allows you to download interactive bonus features to help you live out the movie experience. Here’s an example: With the HD DVD edition of Heroes: Season 1, find out if you have what it takes to be a hero with the Genetic Abilities Test. Unlock exclusive bonus content, and create your own avatar to face off against others in NBC's online community. The only thing missing is your superhero outfit.

Picture-in-Picture Playability

With HD DVD’s mandated second video decoder, you can access picture-in-picture playability and watch bonus content while the movie is running. For instance, on the HD DVD of 300, director Zack Snyder presents blue screen composite scenes that play in time with the finished versions. It’s a mind-bending mash-up of "before" and "after," and just one of the ways HD DVD takes you way behind the scenes.

With a regular DVD, you have to stop the movie to access menus and special features. Not so with HD DVD. Now you can engage menus and jump to additional features without wasting a minute or missing a moment of the action.

Bookmarks and Clips

Ever wanted to save your favorite car chases or action sequences and re-watch them long after the movie has exited your player? Thanks to HD DVD’s Persistent Storage, you can. Bookmark your favorite scenes or clips and watch them back-to-back, greatest hits-style, anytime you want.
